Why and How it Works

Ecklonia Maxima, The King of Kelps.

There are probably as many seaweed & kelp types out there as there are stop signs in NYC!

Why Ecklonia? Why Cambrian? Here’s why:

Of kelp and seaweeds:

  1. There are many types; green seaweeds, red seaweeds and kelps; i.e. brown seaweed, sourced from numerous coastlines around the world.

These differ dramatically from each other; some are small and flimsy, and others, like Ecklonia maxima, are giants, 20 feet long and as tough as rubber.
  2. There are mayor differences in seaweed collection and harvesting; some harvest fresh, and some not.
  3. There are also significant differences in processing technologies.

Seaweed processing.

A very early method, developed in early 1950 and still in common use today, uses chemical hydrolyses, i.e. dehydration, heat and high alkalinity. This results in dark brown seaweed extracted powders or liquids.

In the late 60’s, a French company developed a process which requires liquid nitrogen to freeze kelp brittle hard before crushing it.

A technological breakthrough occurred in the early 80’s. A patented mechanical "cell burst" process was designed to eliminate these extreme, harsh production treatments.

This process, during which the cytoplasm - juice - from freshly harvested Ecklonia kelp was mechanically released and concentrated, resulted in an Ecklonia Kelp plant growth stimulant unequaled in effectiveness at that time.

During 2002 and again in 2008, Cambrian Biotech, initially trading as Agro-Organics, was involved with further processing refinements aimed at improving mechanical cell disruption, filtration and organic stabilization.

Today, Cambrian Biotech uses the latest mechanical equipment, including ultra high frequency sound and ultra violet light technology, to process its freshly harvested Ecklonia kelp. This produces an organic plant growth product unrivalled in reliability and cost effectiveness.

Spray 1 quart per acre as foliar application a few times per season and harvest a substantial increase!

How does EkloGrow® Ecklonia Kelp Plant Growth Stimulant work?

EkloGrow® is unique. It consists of concentrated cytoplasm derived from crisp-fresh Ecklonia maxima kelp.

In 1979, significant levels of plant growth stimulants - auxin- and cytokinin-like compounds – were discovered in the cytoplasm of fresh kelp, Ecklonia maxima.

These organic compounds increase root development, plant growth, flowering and yields by stimulating the plants natural internal hormonal balance and developmental processes.

The product stimulates plant root growth due to its auxin-like compounds and flower initiation/fruit set to its cytokinin-like compounds. In turn, these result in healthier plant growth, greater tolerance to a number of environmental stress factors and increased crop yields.

EkloGrow® is therefore applied as an organic plant growth stimulant – a natural “hormonal” product.
EkloGrow® also contains a wide variety of minerals; these trace elements and other components, such as vitamin B1, function synergistically with the auxin-and cytokinin-like components.

EkloGrow® is commonly applied either as a foliar spray at a rate of 1 quart per acre, a 1:500 diluted foliar spray or diluted to 1:200 as soil soak/irrigation applications.  Applications are normally repeated twice to four times, each spaced by approximately 3 weeks during the early to mid growth phases of crops.

EkloGrow® is therefore not used for its nutritional – i.e. fertilizer – value but as a powerful, natural plant & crop booster. It is used in many countries in conjunction with various chemical and organic fertilizer programs on a wide variety of crops, turf, plants and trees.

To conclude - It must be stressed that the mineral analyses of seaweed products are of lesser importance. It is the levels of active, natural plant growth stimulants, the cytokinin- & auxin-like activity, which are responsible for the positive plant growth reactions and should be given appropriate attention.

It is therefore important to establish what the natural auxin- and cytokinin-like activity levels are when comparing kelp seaweed products as it is these compounds that are directly responsible for stimulating plant root development, growth and ultimately crop yield improvements.

Today, EkloGrow®, Cambrian’s organic Ecklonia plant growth stimulant, is used, under many different labels & trade names in numerous countries around the globe to stimulate growth and increase yields of a wide variety of crops.

EkloGrow® is backed by over 20 scientific publications, Ph. D thesis and numerous field trials all around the world.
